Ratna’s Story: Returning to Business Analysis with Hymans Robertson

Ratna Success Story

Ratna Biswas, Business Analyst, Hymans Robertson (5 year career break)

In 2007, I completed my Computer Science Engineering degree and started my career as an Oracle Developer. Before my career break, I was working as a Team Lead in Bangalore, India.

In 2017, I left my job to relocate to the UK with my husband and 3-year-old son. My son had problems settling, so what I initially thought would be a short career break became 5 years.

During my career break, I spent quality time with my little one. I also followed my passion and started a home-based catering business. The business was running well, and I was very happy. But subconsciously, I was missing corporate life and my previous work. So, I decided to restart my corporate career.

Initially when I started to try to find a new role, I really struggled. I didn’t get any responses due to my career break.

Then one of my friends told me about Women Returners. She had also been successful getting a job with Women Returners after a career break. I registered myself and started looking for a job. And within 2 months I got my position with Hymans Robertsons.

Initially I was scared, and my confidence was low. But support from Women Returners and Hymans Robertson made my journey smoother. Hymans supported me in every way. They gave me training and great flexibility which has allowed me to balance work and my home life. The Women Returners monthly workshops gave great guidance and helped with the transition. I gained my confidence back.

Now I am back at work, I am really happy and enjoying every bit of it. I secured a permanent position at Hymans at the end of the returner programme.

I am very grateful that Hymans gave me this opportunity. It feels great to be able to contribute to this dynamic workplace, to be working in an environment where I am stimulated daily by the diversity of skills, experience and thought leadership within the organisation.

I strongly recommend anyone seriously thinking about going back to work to just do it!
