Nilima’s Story: Returning to Tech at FDM


Nilima Dusaj, Senior Test Analyst, FDM (6 year career break)

I started my career in Singapore as a Software Tester. The role spanned 8 years across several industries and locations before my family and I relocated to London. After moving to a completely new country and a young daughter to look after, I decided to take extended maternity leave.

After a 6-year career break, the time was right to look for new roles, however as the COVID-19 pandemic hit my plans to return to work were halted. Despite my prior experience, the job hunt was far more difficult than I had expected.

After many rejections I decided to be proactive and have my CV professionally reviewed and also enrolled in some technical upskilling courses. Despite my additional efforts, I still didn’t have much luck until a friend came to me with an opportunity, the FDM Returners Programme.

FDM didn’t worry about my career gap, they focused on the experience I did have. The quality combined with the 9:30am-4:30pm structure of the training was perfect and made the return to work smooth, giving me the confidence to hit the ground running.

I was one of the 9 women to join the first all-female cohort in the FDM Tech Returners Programme and I am now working as a Senior Test Analyst with an international financial services conglomerate.
