About the Programme
- The programme offers a professionally paid placement of 6 months, from May to November 2024
- There will be a strong likelihood of a permanent role at the end of the programme
- To support your transition back into the workplace, you will receive an internal mentor and a buddy for your day-to-day questions
- You will benefit from Career Returners’ Coaching Programme throughout your time on the programme
- As part of the cross-company programme, you will have a ready-made peer support group of other returners re-entering the insurance sector
Opportunities on the Programme
Their underwriting teams work with global and regional brokers to deliver specialist insurance solutions for individuals, businesses, and professionals. Team members play a pivotal role in delivering positive customer outcomes, determining policy terms, setting premiums, and creating a balanced and profitable portfolio.
This team is seeking skills relating to: Underwriting, relationship building, portfolio management and data analysis.
Their claims teams are responsible for ensuring Markel’s policy holders receive timely and accurate compensation in the event of losses or damages. They ensure that the promise of coverage is fulfilled promptly and fairly in order to maintain the trust and reputation of Markel.
This team is seeking skills relating to: Claims handling and/or loss adjusting.
The Internal Audit function is integral to ensuring the overall integrity, efficiency, and effectiveness of Markel’s operations. Through independent assessments, recommendations, and assurance, they contribute to their ability to manage risks effectively and achieve their business goals.
This team is seeking skills relating to: The ability to analyse data and identify patterns, trends, and anomalies. Applicants will need good critical thinking skills to evaluate processes and identify risks.
Markel’s legal function is essential for navigating the complex legal landscape, safeguarding their interests, and fostering a culture of compliance and ethical conduct.
This team is seeking skills relating to: A background in law/basic legal principles, an ability to think critically and apply legal reasoning.
Their Change Delivery team are responsible for planning, managing, and implementing changes across their organisation. The team plays a pivotal role in ensuring change is executed smoothly, efficiently, and effectively.
This team is seeking skills relating to: Project management, stakeholder engagement, quality assurance and an eye for continuous improvement.

Your career break must be 18 months or more as at May 2024. You may have been working on a small-scale basis to fit around your other commitments or have not done any paid work for a number of years.
