Hello. This is Severn Trent and they believe water is wonderful. And they’re pretty keen on people too. They love to welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality, as they know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help them to learn and better serve their customers.

Severn Trent thinks everyone in their community deserves a great job, no matter what. That’s why they’re introducing their new Returners Programme, designed to give wonderful people who’ve been out of work in their profession for 18 months or more, a fantastic opportunity to get back into what they love.

No matter the reason for taking a career break – they’d love to hear from you.

Everything you need to know

Whether you’ve been on parental leave, have caregiving duties or have been pursuing other personal matters, Severn Trent understands that returning to work can be daunting. That’s why they’ve created a flexible and supportive Returners Programme within their finance team, designed to refresh your skills, gain hands-on experience, rebuild your confidence, and reignite your passion for finance.

They are looking to support finance professionals, who are keen to return to work, by offering a paid 6-month part-time or full-time role within their finance team (Don’t worry, they’ll work the hours around you). Plus, you’ll also have the possibility of securing a permanent role at the end of the programme.

You’ll be based at their head office in Coventry City Centre and joining them in May 2024.

They want to make you feel comfortable at work, which is why you’ll be a member of their returners network, have access to a mentor within the business and the opportunity to learn at their very own Academy, which will give you the support and training for both your professional and personal development.

What you’ll bring to the role

Severn Trent is looking for people that are from a finance, accounting, or related background, who have been out of finance related work for 18 months or more.

You’ll also be:

  • Open to getting to know their business and collaborating with their teams to work towards their ambitious company goals
  • You’ll be contributing to activities which are critical to their Finance Team and achieving their strategic ambitions
  • Participate in and familiarise yourself with their company culture, processes, and systems
  • Collaborate with a number of teams within finance and across the business to gain experience and develop new skills
  • Open to a personalised mentorship from experienced professionals within the business who will support your growth and development
  • Engage in continuous learning opportunities through workshops and training sessions through their Academy, and collaborate in their networking group
  • Hold a financial qualification in ACCA, ACA or CIMA. They are also open to part qualified individuals

Severn Trent employs thousands of people from across their community who really care about what they do. Because that is how they do what they do. And when it comes to inclusion, they’re making sure they keep up the progress with their wonderful working groups – LGBTQ+, Women in Operations & STEM, Disability and Ethnicity, who help them do just that.

What’s in it for you

You’ll be employed by a FTSE 100 company and be partnered with a team within finance that best reflects your skills and background. This means you will be involved in relevant projects and have access to the best support. This could be a role in Treasury and Risk, Finance Customer Operations, Internal Audit, Financial Performance and Reporting, Procurement, Investor Relations, or Financial Control.

During your programme, you’ll have access to a range of benefits that reward and recognise great work and award-winning training. Here’s some of their favourites:

  • 28 days holiday + bank holidays (and the ability to buy/ sell up to 5 days per year)
  • Leading pension scheme – they will double your contribution (up to 15% when you contribute 7.5%)
  • Dedicated training and development with their ‘Academy’
  • Family friendly policies (including, a year off paid for maternity and adoption leave)
  • Two volunteering days per year

Severn Trent can’t wait to hear from you.

Before you apply, you’ll need an updated copy of your CV and about five minutes to spare (Don’t worry, a cover letter isn’t a requirement).
