If you’ve had a career break of two or more years, Investec is partnering with Women Returners to offer a supportive Return to Work Programme to help you get back into full-time work. Whether you’re interested in retraining into investment management, or have previous investment management experience, Investec would like to hear from you.

About the Investec Return to Work Programme

For 2021 there are two pathways on the Return to Work Programme, both within Investec Wealth and Investment:

  • For candidates who have a background in professional services, but who are new to the investment management industry, there is a 9-month retraining opportunity to train as an Investment Manager and achieve the Investment Advice Diploma (Level 4)
  • For candidates with previous investment management experience and a relevant qualification at Level 4 or above, Investec is offering a 6-month Returnship to return to your Investment Management career.

Both options are with a view to permanent employment at the end of the programme. You will receive a competitive package of pay and benefits including a ten per cent contributory pension scheme with 10% employer contribution, life assurance, income protection, private healthcare and a range of wellbeing options including a wellbeing subsidy, employee assistance programme and access to physiotherapy and psychologist services.

While these roles are full-time during the initial placement, please speak to Investec about any flexible working options you may require. Beyond the programme, for successful returners there will also be opportunities to gain further qualifications, access the Investec client database and grow your own client business.

About the retraining opportunity

Investec will support you throughout the programme. You will work closely alongside an experienced Investec Investment Manager or Discretionary Fund Manager to learn the business, understand the Investec approach and get to know the client base, while demonstrating your strong transferable skills. Study leave will be available as you work towards your Investment Advice Diploma during the 9 months. You’ll have a buddy from day one and an Investec mentor, and group coaching will be provided by Women Returners.

About the returnship opportunity

As an experienced Investment Manager, you will work closely alongside an Investec Investment Manager or Discretionary Fund Manager for 6 months, in a role that enables you to demonstrate your skills and experience. In addition to a supportive environment and line manager, you will have additional support from a buddy and mentor. Who Investec is looking for 

Investec is keen to hear from candidates who’ve had a career break of at least two years. During your career break they understand you may have worked on a small-scale or self-employed basis.

  • For the retraining opportunity they’re looking for experienced individuals from a financial services or professional services background who have excellent client facing skills.
  • For the returnship opportunity they’re looking for experienced Investment Managers with a qualification at Level 4 or above.

About the opportunities:


This is an opportunity to join a growing team of 20 currently, managing discretionary funds worth £800M. Investec’s discretionary fund managers (DFMs) are highly technical and work closely with research and investment managers. You’ll be part of a team responsible for both originating and executing investment ideas. Their DFM teams are their in-house investment experts. A grounding in fund management is a unique practical introduction to the fundamentals of private client investment management.


This is an opportunity to join a dynamic team currently managing discretionary funds worth £850M. Investec’s internal investment process requires their discretionary fund managers to be highly technical. You’ll be part of a team responsible for both originating and executing investment ideas. As well as quantitative expertise and focus, each discretionary fund manager (DFM) provides a vital link between research and their IM colleagues, communicating the firm’s evolving strategy and its tactics in fast-moving markets. The DFM teams are in-house investment experts. A grounding in fund management is a unique practical introduction to the fundamentals of private client investment management.


This is a great opportunity to be part of a highly motivated team that is responsible for growing the investment management and holistic financial advice business. You’ll work closely with other team members and function areas, both within Wealth and the wider bank to help develop and grow a strong portfolio of clients and ensure high levels of retention. With excellent communication and relationship skills, you’ll be focused on working with clients to review, manage and advise upon their financial affairs.


This is an opportunity to join a growth-focused team who deal with a wide range of clients, both in age, type, and source of wealth, with various structures; SIPPs, Corporates, Trusts, IHT mitigation portfolios and General Investment Portfolios. The Team is made up of a wide range of experience and is seeking someone to add their own experiences to the mix and contribute to the focus of advising and helping clients meet their investment and overall financial objectives.
