About FundApps

FundApps is a bootstrapped SaaS scaleup that helps investment managers monitor and comply with worldwide regulations. They were one of the world’s first “RegTechs” and they’re shaking up an entire industry. Their clients love what they do and this has led to phenomenal consistent revenue growth.

Their first area of focus was to help managers with Shareholding Disclosure, a complex regulatory problem without a fit-for-purpose solution in the market. Since that time, their service has become the undisputed market leader with over 130 clients. They have also added new ground-breaking services – Sensitive Industries and Position Limits – and in 2023, introduced Filing Manager, a one click filing service to take their solution to the next level.

Every day, their service monitors a collective US$19 trillion in assets under management on behalf of clients ranging from small US Hedge Funds to French Investment Banks to the largest Sovereign Wealth Fund in the world.

They are a growing team of 130 FundAppers and over 35 nationalities at last count. They have offices in London, New York and Singapore and remote employees spread across the globe. In 2018, they became a Certified B Corporation and in 2019 were recognised as a B Corp ‘Best for the World – Workers’ Honoree – highlighting their commitment to doing good by their people. They are working towards an ambitious target of being carbon neutral by 2027.

Legal Associate

Join their dynamic in-house legal team (of one!) and become an integral part of their value-driven organisation. They are seeking a passionate legal professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and excellence. You’ll have the opportunity to work on diverse and challenging legal matters while making a meaningful impact on the success of FundApps. If you’re dedicated, forward-thinking, and eager to contribute your expertise, they invite you to explore this exciting opportunity.

The role

As they rev up their legal function, they’ve uncovered the need for extra firepower to kick off an awesome roadmap of legal and compliance activities this year (and beyond) and they want you to be part of the journey. Join them in crafting policies, processes, and training that will play a vital part in turbocharging their business. Roll up your sleeves and get stuck in owning and executing exciting legal projects.

Your main mission? To supercharge the legal function by lightening the load on their Legal Counsel and demystifying day-to-day legal quandaries for their favourite customers – the business.

As a member of a very small legal team, it goes without saying that you will be a key player in their quest for excellence.

What you’ll be working on

The life of an in-house lawyer is varied and each day is a veritable roulette of tasks; one day you might be negotiating terms with a client and the next you could be reviewing a new AI tool for legal issues. To give you a bit more of an understanding of the kinds of tasks that may come your way, here is a non-exhaustive selection:

  • Undertaking legal reviews for all new supplier contracts and being the ultimate gatekeeper of their contracts approval policy. Maintaining their existing supplier contract database in their contract management system to ensure they don’t miss a renewal!
  • Helping their sales team with tricky client queries on our terms and conditions.
  • Conducting reviews of AI tools to make sure they are compliant with our AI Tool policy.
  • Horizon scanning for any upcoming legislative changes and providing updates to the business in a fun but informative way.
  • Responding to various queries in their #ask-legal slack channel and providing relevant advice.

There will also be a number of projects to sink your teeth into which, if they pull off, will deliver significant efficiencies and hopefully be the start of their legal and compliance nirvana. Here’s a sneak peek of the subject matter of those projects;

  • Implementing a data protection framework including all of the classic data protection bells and whistles – transfer risk assessments, data protection agreements and data processing activity records.
  • Kicking off their phase 2 review of legacy supplier contracts to sniff out any contractual risks and scope out how to address them.
  • Creating an induction plan for new starters to give them a fun and fact filled introduction to legal.
  • Revamping their internal playbook for their sales teams, facilitating contract training sessions and improving the client due diligence process.
  • Helping their clients get to know how they do legal/compliance by creating an information hub so that they can self-serve.
  • Supporting the implementation of vendor management systems and other legal software tools.

Their values

Their culture is the backbone of their working experience at FundApps and there is truly a collective effort to live their company values. They are the core attributes they look for in any potential FundApper:

#Work-with-purpose: You can articulate the value of your own work in larger projects or team-wide objectives. You have the freedom to own and deliver solutions and are comfortable working with ambiguity and evolving requirements.

#Have-courage: You are comfortable asking for and giving feedback. You know what it’s like to be a resource to the business and to help demystify legalese to others – knowing when to think commercially but also when to advise against things. You build good relationships with the wider business and are able to respectfully challenge each other to understand the problem and come up with the best solutions.

#Be-transparent: As a company, they value and aspire for transparency at all levels; you’ll provide work updates to communicate regularly about progress and blockers and reach out for help when needed.

#Raise-the-bar: You seek out opportunities to improve their processes, practices, legal knowledge and are willing to work closely with the business to get stuff done at pace when the time calls for it.

#Do-more-with-less: You identify and help implement improvements to processes and standards within the business, seek to optimise their workflow, and share ideas for how to automate manual tasks. As a company they try to minimise meetings (they have meeting-free Wednesdays) and default to asynchronous written communication over long multiple person meetings.

What you’ll bring to the team

They believe expertise goes beyond a mere shopping list compilation of skills. Their priority is to find the right fit for their business who relates with their values – someone who not only possesses the technical competencies required for the role but more importantly, brings a proactive and dedicated approach to what they do and embodies a positive work ethic.

Having said that this is a legal professional role and as such there will be some must haves which we would like to highlight:

  • Qualified lawyer (in England and Wales) with 3+ years PQE.
  • Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and review skills.
  • Knowledge of data protection regulations and familiarity with international privacy laws.
  • Research skills – ability to interpret complex topics into a digestible format.

For extra brownie points they will also look to see how you might display some of these qualities which have proven to be invaluable for an in-house legal resource:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in using legal database software and general IT.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and discretion.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to understand business needs.
  • Tech background and interest.

If you get warm fuzzy feelings about what they’re trying to achieve at FundApps, then they want to hear from you!

Salary: £60,000
